ArtiCarlton T

ArtiCarlton T was not born to sing. Unlike most vocalists, he did not grow up singing in church; he taught himself to crone while spinning records and honing his DJ skills in the late 80’s & early 90’s. While growing up in Jamaica, ArtiCarlton T was steeped in a caldron of lyrical potency. Coming of age on an island boiling with musical expressions of love, oppression and political tension took a hold of ArtiCarlton T and forced him to find a voice through which he could "express" himself in the genre that felt most natural. His “rootsy ragga” style is artistically ruff around the edges. Not knowing the words to songs made him the unique vocalist he is today, known for using expressive moans, wails and yodels to fill in lyrical blanks. He often refers to himself as the original “3/4 vocalist.” Unlike most Jamaican vocalist who chooses to do American cover songs, ArtiCarlton T is quite an originator. He will write and sing a song about anything. Anything. His emotionally expressive lyrical agility captivates and entertains.

ArtiCarlton T is part of the duo "Mahad Mahan ArtiCarlton T." He is often mistaken for his brother Mahad Mahan because of their similar characteristics. In 1999 Mahad Mahan ArtiCarlton T released their first album "1 mAHAD mAHAN: di Source of di Mahadness" on their own label (1 mAHAD mAHAN do dat Creations). Since then, ArtiCarlton T went on as a co-founder of the independent Reggae Label, Jamaica Natural Records. After slowly establishing himself as an underground Reggae/Ragga/Roots/Dancehall artist, ArtiCarlton and Mahad Mahan are finally breaking out to the surface with their new release “Land of ME.” These twin brothers are definitely out to grab your attention, showcasing their versatile talent and intellectual prowess as vocalists, lyricists and composers. Teaming up with veteran producers Alan ‘EayGee’ Gordon, Rankin Scroo and N4SA, their latest endeavor is sure to send shockwaves throughout the reggae and hip hop community. Universalizing the phrase “radical reggae,” attributable to their unique interpretation of social topics, Land of ME will evoke thought as well as dialog and is a must have for all reggae and hip hop fans worldwide.
